The
forerunner of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, the Hong Kong
Fire Brigade was established in 1868, was an integral part of the
Hong Kong Police Force. And the Auxiliary Fire Services was formed
in 1938. They both provided Firefighting and rescue services to
the public.
In 1960, the then Deputy
Colonial Secretary, A committee which lead by Mr. David Trench,
appointed to compile a report on the re-organization of the Fire
Bridage. The committee recommanded to change the name title of "Hong
Kong Fire Bridage" to "Hong Kong Fire Services Department".
Since the tasks of Firefighting
and rescie operations required expertise professionalism and experience.
The Auxiliary Fire Services was disbanded in 1975.
The jobs of Fire Services
Department, is protect life and property from fire or other calamity,
give advice on fire protection measures and fire hazards, educate
the community and to promote the public awareness on fire safety
and to render ambulance aid to the sick
and the injured and convey them to hospital.
