All Firemen / Fire Station Officers have to undergo various kinds of harsh training before they passed out. But prior to 1962, there was no purpose-built accommodation for Fire Services training. The Recruit training course had to be held in fire stations.

In 1962, the HKFSD was considered necessary for a separate training center. So the HKFSD Training School was established at Chatham Road Compound In 1963, the site was a detention center. In 1965, the Training School moved to the Old Naval Chamber at Canton Road. HK Naval owned the site before. The school was moved again to the ex-naval premises in Queensway at Harcourt Road in 1966.


In 1968, the Opening of the Fire Services Training School at Pat Heung by the Governor, Sir David Trench in 20.7.1968.

School facilities include lecture hall, mutli-media classroom, conference room, dormitories, indoor gymnasium, football pitch, tennis court, canteen; drill towers, ship model for simulated ship fires, simulators for compartment fire behavior training, fire rigs, smoke chamber, fire appliances and equipments for training.

The school also runs different in-service courses for serving members, ambulancemen and ambulance officers and basic firefighting courses for staff of other government departments and private organizations.
