Main Page / Special Project / The double-decker bus crash at Tuen Mun Highway At about 6.30 am on 10/ 07/ 2003, a double-decker bus travelling along the northbound Tuen Mun Road reportedly collided with a container truck heading for the same direction near Ting Kau. After the impact, the bus crashed against the barrier and fell onto a slope while the truck managed to stop on the highway.
Since the casualties were found scattered on thr range or at the steep slope , the police, firemen and ambulance crew had to overcome the rugged terrain to rescue. Some passengers tossed outside from the bus, the others were trapped in their seats or climbed from the out of the windows. After the rescued by firemen. The casualties led to the Triage Point & Casualty Clearing Station which set up at the Tuen Mun Road. The ambulance crew provided the further stabilizing treatment on the spot. Afterwards, all passengers were admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital, Yan Chai Hospital, Tuen Mun Hospital and Caritas Medical Centre respectively for treatment. All passengers who confirmed dead were sent to the temporary mortuary. The Medical Teams of Hospital Authority were mobilized and provide the medical treatment. The helicopters of Government Flying Service and the members of Civil Aid Service took the search operation on the range. The rescue operation was completed at 1324 hours. During the incident, 21 persons including the bus driver were confirmed dead while 10 male and 10 female passengers sustaining injuries. The case is a one major and traffic incidents in Hong Kong.
