Mountaineering is a one of the most popular activities in Hong Kong. The beautiful countryside attracts many hikers. However, many accidents were happened in the hills. These accidents are usually caused due to lack of preparation and under-estimation of potential hazards in hill walking expeditions. So the mountain search and rescue service is very important in Hong Kong.

The expert mountain search and rescue service was started at 50's. the mountain search and rescue services were provided by the British Air Force which based in Malaya.

However, in 1956, the Air Commodore of Royal Hong Kong Air Force decided to recruit volunteers in Air Force for assist the mountain search and rescue operations. It is because Hong Kong have many hills and under-estimation of potential hazards.

The Air Commodore of Royal Hong Kong Air Force was assigned to IGS (staff section). He proposed to the British Ministry of Defence about setup a Regular Mountain Rescue Team in Hong Kong in 1958.

In 1960, the voluntary mountain search and rescue team of Royal Hong Kong Air Force was provided an excellent service in a military aircraft crashed. So "the Royal Air Force Kai Tak Land - Mountain Rescue Team" estimated in 1961.

Unluckily, in 1967, the Air Commodore of Royal Hong Kong Air Force wanted to disband the Royal Air Force Kai Tak Land - Mountain Rescue Team since the lack of resources. 

But Hong Kong need to form quickly similar Mountain Rescue Team to fill the gap, a new mountain rescue organization was coming...
